NorCal Cosplay Ball: Winter Frolic

The team behind the NorCal Cosplay Ball, NorCal Cosplay Ball Lite, NorCal Cosplay Ball: Spring Fever, and NorCal Cosplay Ball: Sunset Soirée is pleased to present the our next event: Winter Frolic!


After the success of all of our past events, we are putting together our resources, our ideas, your suggestions/feedback, and plan on producing our best event yet, with more hours this time! Celebrate our anniversary at our current venus dance the night away to your favorite songs from anime, video game, J-Pop, K-Pop, and more! Enjoy formal dancing, social mixers, cosplay contests, and more!


Tentative Schedule



  • 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Welcome hour for socializing, photography, and open office hours for dance instruction.

  • 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Beginner dance lesson taught by one of the Bay Area’s top dancing professionals, Daniel Lee Tran.

  • 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm: The party begins! Social dancing with occasional icebreaker activities.

  • 9:00 pm – 9:15 pm: Dance demonstrations by some of the Bay Area’s top performers plus prize-giveaways

  • 9:15 pm – 10:00 pm: More Dancing!

  • 10:00 pm – 10:15 pm: Cosplay Contests as well as additional performances and giveaways


Admission



  • Online Prepaid (up until the end of 12/8/18) : $10 (plus $1.42 Eventbrite processing fee)

  • At the door (Cash only): $15


For those who want to avoid processing fee, contact us via instagram (@NorCalCosplayBall), calling us (707-998-8458), commenting on our Facebook event page, or directly messaging Daniel Lee Tran on Facebook Messenger (m.me/norcalcosplayball) in order to set up an option for a manual ticket order versus automated.


Tickets include admission to the event, including the dance lesson before the party, access to our light snacks and beverages, as well as a raffle ticket and free entry into our cosplay contest. Like at our previous event, we are offering perks to early registration:



  • Register by the end of September 30th and receive an additional FOUR raffle tickets.

  • Prepay by the end of October 31st and receive an additional THREE raffle tickets.

  • Get your tickets by the end of December 8th and receive an additional TWO raffle tickets.


People who show up in costume as well as people that attend the beginner lesson at 7:00 pm will also receive an additional raffle ticket for each.


Venue


We are once again proud to be hosting our event at The Rose Ballroom (1224 South Bascom Ave., San Jose, CA 95128). With over 4,000 square feet of dancing space and an elegant setting, we are certain to put on our best formal dance yet.


Frequently Asked Questions


1) Is there an ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?


No, but please bring your ID for verification purposes.


2) What can I bring into the event?


Yourself, comfy shoes, appropriate clothing, and your friends/ partner(s)! If you would like to contribute/donate food or drinks to the event, please let us know. Thanks in advance!


3) Will there be alcohol served at the event?


No, there will not. We will have water, soda and fruit punch available for guests.


4) What is the dress code?


The key is dress to impress! We will be having some amazing photographers onsite to capture you and your amazing cosplay/outfits in an elegant setting provided by our lovely venue. Keep it classy!


Also remember that you want to be comfortable moving so you can dance the night away. For example, while something like a blazer/jacket can contribute to a dapper and formal look. it may not be the best choice for the dance floor as it can get hot, and the cut on most jacket sleeves can severely limit range of motion in the arms to the point of being a safety hazard.


In order to address any concerns as well as contribute to a more dressy atmosphere, the following are not recommended:



  • T-shirts

  • Tank tops

  • Muscle shirts

  • Ripped shirts

  • Going shirtless

  • Jeans

  • Shorts

  • Cutoffs

  • Athletic pants

  • Bare feet

  • Steel toed boots


While they make part of a great costume, we recommend keeping weapon props, helmets, marks, and sunglasses off the dance floor for safety concerns. This also goes for any other costume accessories that can hinder visibility and movement.


As far as shoes go, the main thing is that they need to stay on your feet, be easy to balance and move in, and should be comfortable. Flip flops and platform shoes are good examples of shoes we would NOT recommend. We also highly discourage rubber soled sneakers due to their tendency to stick to the floor. While not required, we highly recommend dance shoes if possible, or some type of shoe with soft suede soles. We would be more than happy to share our recommendations. While your favorite pair of high heels might look sexy and fun for photos, we encourage attendees to have a backup pair to change into if they anticipate tired feet later through the night. Don’t be ashamed to swap into those modest flats if those are your most comfortable option!


Overall, use your best judgment. If you feel like it’ll fall off, hinder your movement, cause a safety concern, or is simply not very classy, we probably would not recommend it.


5) I don’t know how to dance!


Don’t worry! We will have a beginner dance class taught by one of the Bay Area’s top dance instructors PLUS experienced dancers who can help guide and facilitate the dance floor. Keep checking back here for videos recapping dances taught at previous events. If you still want to take extra steps towards preparing, we are more than happy to recommend trustworthy classes to get you on the right footing.


New for this year is the 6:00 pm “Welcome Hour.” During this time, our instructor and his team of assistants will be available to answer any questions, whether it be about dances or steps taught at previous events, help on material from outside classes, or new attendees that have never danced before and would like a head start on their learning. We really hope that many attendees enjoy this addition to the schedule.


6) Will we be able to make song requests?


If you would like to make a song request or suggestion, reach out to the hosts before 12/1 in order for it to be considered, especially specific song requests versus requests for a genre. Keep in mind that not every request will necessarily make it onto the playlist. We will release previews of the playlist in advance.


7) What’s the refund policy?


No refunds allowed. Our apologies.
